Concerns about this season?November 3, 2011 1:56 pm
As a lifelong Duke fan, who actually worked as a student manager for the team in the past, I have serious concerns about this year. I think the biggest think that will frustrate me is the fact that Irving declared for the NBA draft and even at the time it was obvious that there was a very real chance we would not have an NBA season. Having Irving and Rivers in the backcourt would be a huge boost for us but it wouldn't take care of my biggest concern right now. I don't think Duke is going to have enough of an inside presence this year as neither of the two Plumlee brothers have shown much toughness down low and I don't expect having three of them will change that any. Also, while I have been very pleased with the strides made by Kelly, he is most dangerous 15-25 feet away from the basket and isn't going to dominate inside. My last concern is that awful team 8 miles away, who will go unnamed, has one of the best teams I've seen in recent years. Hopefully they end up doing the same as the Eagles "dream team" had done so far and the Red Sox, Yankees, Phillies and Miami Heat did as far as underperforming despite their talent. Looking at the Top Ten in the Polls and a couple of other League Leading Teams. These are their wins against teams in the top 100 RPI: 15 wins: Kansas 14 wins: Duke 13 wins: Ohio State 12 wins: Pitt, Georgetown, Florida 11 wins: BYU, SDSU, Notre Dame 10 wins: Texas, Wisconsin 8 wins: Arizona I say Kansas is #1, Duke #2, Ohio State #3, Pitt #4 I'm surprised by Florida's 12 wins against the top 100. McDonald's All AmericansFebruary 11, 2011 6:02 pm
Great recognition of Duke's 2011 recruting class. Rivers, Cook, and Plumlee were all named McDonald's All Americans. I didn't realize that Gbinije was a 5th year senior and therefore ineligible. Otherwise he'd probably be on the list. I'm more excited by the fact that Gbinije will be a year older than most players when he hits the Duke campus! Category: NCAAB Tags: Duke
